Young Fine Gael Presents Ambitious Pre-Budget 2027 Submission to An Tánaiste Simon Harris

Young Fine Gael this week presented its Pre-Budget 2027 Submission to An Tánasite and Minister for Finance, Simon Harris TD, outlining a bold package of measures aimed at supporting young people, strengthening Ireland’s national resilience, and delivering tangible improvements in quality of life.

Members of the Young Fine Gael National Executive and the YFG Pre-Budget Policy Committee met with An Tánaiste Simon Harris, as well as holding a separate meeting with YFG’s Parliamentary Party Liaison Senator Mark Duffy and Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Public Expenditure Senator Cathal Byrne, to discuss the organisation’s priorities ahead of Budget 2027.

Among the key proposals being advanced by Young Fine Gael are:

  1. Reducing the student contribution to €1,500, with a commitment to continue reducing fees over the next four budgets with the ultimate goal of eliminating the charge entirely.

  2. Ensuring free menstrual products in every public building, through sustained Government funding and the full delivery on Programme for Governments commitments.

  3. Guaranteeing Gaeltacht access for all DEIS students by expanding the DEIS Gaeltacht Scholarship Scheme to fully cover the costs of a Gaeltacht summer course for every student attending a DEIS-designated school.

The submission also contains a wide range of recommendations across housing, healthcare, agriculture, cost-of-living support and education.

These engagements provide an important opportunity for YFG members to directly advocate for the priorities of young people and communities across Ireland. These meetings also demonstrate the meaningful influence that Young Fine Gael members can have in shaping party policy and contributing to national decision-making.

“Our Pre-Budget Submission provides young people with an important opportunity to advocate on the priorities that matter to them and their communities. As an organisation we play an important part in the political process by giving a voice to young people and this is just one of the ways that our members can have an impact,” Young Fine Gael President Jamie Malone added.

YFG will continue engaging with public representatives and stakeholders in the weeks ahead as preparation for Budget 2027 progress. Young Fine Gael will continue engaging with public representatives and stakeholders in the weeks ahead as preparations for Budget 2027 progress.
