YFG Calls for Increased Investment in Employment for People with a Disability

Young Fine Gael is calling for the Government to increase investment in employment for people with a disability. Currently, Ireland has one of the lowest employment rates of people with disabilities. Only 26% of people with a disability are employed here compared to the European average of 48%.

In order to increase employment, we are calling for the introduction of tax incentives for employers in the form of a tax rebate on the purchase and installation of equipment and facilities in the workplace.

In addition, we are calling for the introduction of a new start-up fund which will provide capital to a person with a disability who wishes to start their own business, as per the recommendation in the Pathways to Entrepreneurship for People with Disabilities in Ireland report.

The proposal is included in Young Fine Gael’s Pre-Budget Submission: Striving for Progress, which was unveiled at the end of August.
