A New Platform for YFG Policy

YFG's Director of Policy, Stephen Spillane, has been appointed to NYCI's National Youth Strategy Advisory Group following a recent conference in Maynooth. The group, which has its first meeting next Thursday, was established to ensure that all of NYCI's member organisations have the opportunity to inform the development of the National Youth Strategy. Young Fine Gael is also the only Youth Political Party represented in the Group

The Department of Children and Youth Affairs are committed to developing a National Youth Strategy in Ireland and a number of structures have been established to support the process.

Stephen's role, along with the other nominees will be to:

· Represent the interests of their organisation and ensure two way communication with the Youth Sector representatives on the Task Group

· Consideration and comment on drafts during the development of the National Youth Strategy

· To support the voluntary youth sector representatives on the Task Force by contributing expertise and knowledge to the process

· To assist the processes by which the voluntary youth sector and young people are consulted on the development of the strategy"

Speaking on his appointment to the National Strategy Advisory Group Stephen said:

"I am delighted to have been accepted onto the NYCI's National Youth Strategy Advisory Group. YFG has a proud tradition of being involved in National Youth Strategy discussions going back to the Costello Report in 1984. I am glad to be able to continue this tradition and ensure that YFG has a voice at the table and will have influence on the National Youth Strategy".
