Young Fine Gael welcome the publication of the Marriage Bill 2015

The President of Young Fine Gael, Padraig O'Sullivan, has welcomed today's publication of the Marriage Bill 2015 by the government. The publication of today's bill is one of the final steps in completing Ireland's journey towards full Marriage Equality.

"We welcome the publication of the Marriage Bill 2015 by the Minister for Justice, Frances FitzGerald. The publication of the bill follows the historic 'Yes' vote in the Marriage Equality Referendum on the 22nd of May. The Marriage Bill, as approved by the Cabinet, will be brought before the Dáil next week and will afford same-sex couples equal access to full marriage rights."

"In addition to providing equal marriage rights to all Irish citizens, the bill will also recognise same sex marriages which have been entered into in other countries."

"The first same-sex marriages are expected to take place before Christmas. As we face into the anniversary of the 1916 rising, we remember the promise in the 1916 Proclamation  to afford 'equal opportunities to all citizens'. It is fitting that 1916 should bear fruit to such promises for our LGBT citizens, and all who have chosen to make Ireland their home".
