Young Fine Gael presents Pre-Budget policy document to Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed TD

This week Young Fine Gael presented agriculture and rural affairs proposals to Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Michael Creed TD at a special meeting in the Department of Agriculture ahead of Budget 2017. The Agriculture and Rural Affairs committee endorsed pre-budget proposals made by Macra na Feirme on issues such as the National Reserve fund being made available to young farmers in 2017 along with it’s grass utilisation fund proposals of circa. €2million.

During our meeting with the Minister, we received a very receptive response on all topics. ARA Chairperson and the YFG North West Regional Organiser, David Mc Laughlin said, “he was very familiar with the difficulties that face young people in rural Ireland and the challenges that are facing the rural economy.”

The meeting with the Minister discussed many diverse topics such as Commonage Management Strategies and the need for greater co-operation among state agencies to the review of the delivery and content in the current Green Cert. courses to mental health issues in rural Ireland.

“It is imperative that Young Fine Gael make their voice heard when it comes to contributing to government policy involving young people. I would like to thank Minister Creed for his attentiveness and contributions to the meeting along with Sean Finan, President of Macra na Feirme and the other members who were present” Mc Laughlin concluded.
