Young Fine Gael call on those involved in Bus Éireann strike to immediately re-enter talks

31 March 2017 - Young Fine Gael are today calling on all those involved in the Bus Éireann strike to immediately re-enter talks so that a solution can be found as quickly as possible. YFG also condemns disruptive and unannounced secondary picketing at Irish Rail and Dublin Bus which is deliberately amplifying the chaos. Those involved must stop their action and allow services to resume.

The needs of taxpayers and commuters who fund these services must be prioritised. For the benefit of all commuters, and particularly young people, YFG is calling on Minister Shane Ross to intervene in the Bus Éireann dispute and ensure talks recommence to end the strike.

President of YFG, Marian O'Donnell commented on the situation ' Young people up and down the country rely heavily on public transport. There is no doubt in my mind that the strike escalated today, Friday, so that it would have the most impact and one of the groups most affected by this move are the thousands of students that return home each weekend. Students often have weekend jobs that they rely on for income and this latest development will mean that many will not be able to return home.

Young professionals also rely heavily on public transport to and from work and the lack of notice this morning, with some people only finding out that the service was cancelled as they arrived at the platform, is completely unfair.'
