YFG Policies endorsed by #YFG13

The below motions and resoultions were adopted by YFG members at the 26th YFG National Conference in the Tower Hotel, Waterford from November 22nd - 24th.

Motions

- YFG calls on the Local Authorities of Ireland to put in place a new and start-up business agreement on commercial rates being graded 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% each year in the first 4 years of business, to support job creation and entrepreneurship.

- YFG calls on the Government to appoint an independent investigator to assess all investigations of missing persons for the last 25 years and to re-open those which are deemed feasible.

- YFG calls on the Government to roll out a blanket campaign on suicide prevention, similar to campaign ran against smoking and speeding, and investigate introducing mandatory annual counselling sessions for all second level students.

- YFG calls for an end to the right of automatic remission in prison sentences. Under the current system, nearly all prisoners are automatically entitled to be released after serving two thirds of their sentence, which we believe is a mockery of justice and an insult to the victims of crime. YFG calls for remittance to be judged on an individual basis, as a reward to those deemed to have genuinely reformed.

- YFG supports Minister Coveney's work to lift the restrictions on Irish Beef exports to America and China. We call on the Minister to work with his Department's veterinarians to implement all required technical changes to enable American and Chinese legal changes to affect our farmers. Furthermore, we call on Bord Bia to begin advertising and marketing campaigns to reap the maximum benefits from these changes.

- YFG calls on the Minister for Justice to replace the current organisation-lead system of Garda vetting with a system covering multiple organisations, to be valid for two years as this would ensure a better and faster process of Garda Vetting applications and would clear the backlog of applications.

Resolutions

- Promoting the Digital Economy

- Reforming Paternity and Maternity Rights for Equality

- Increasing the Role Apprenticeship Schemes Play in Education and Youth Employment

- Improving the Effectiveness of Educators in Ireland by developing a National Teacher Evaluation Framework

- Tackling Youth Unemployment in Ireland
