YFG member wins top media award

Roscommon Student Keith Hoare was recently awarded a prestigious Oxygen.ie National Student Media Award in the Mansion House in Dublin.

Keith, who attended Roscommon CBS is a first year student studying Economics, Politics and Law in DCU. He won the award for Best Radio Production of the year (news & current affairs) for his current affairs show 'NewsWire' on DCUfm which he produces with Seamus Conwell, Rowan Finch and Brendan McLoughlin. Keith from Four Roads is the son of Noel and Josephine Hoare.

He is also part of the Roscommon LEO Club where he took part in the Radio 4u project in Ros FM last year.

Keith is also a prominent member of Young Fine Gael since the age of 14 and is currently chairperson of the Mid-Rosommon branch of YFG and is also in line to take up the chair of DCU YFG whose AGM takes place Monday, 26th of April.

Speaking after the award, Keith said he was in a state of shock after their names were read out in front of an audience of over 600 people including some of Ireland's greatest media personalities. The award was presented by Fergal D'arcy of i102-104 who won the same award just a few years ago.

The Smedia awards are a recognition of the huge work done by students across Ireland in the media sphere and is seen as a huge opportunity for Ireland's brightest media stars to achieve highly successful careers. NewsWire is broadcast each Wednesday from 4-4.45pm and is streamed live on www.dcufm.com.
