YFG debate future of health service

"YOUR HEALTH, WHO PAYS?"

Trinity Young Fine Gael will host a debate on the Irish Health Service at 7.15pm tonight (Tuesday) 24th of February, in room 3074, Arts Block building, Trinity College Dublin.

Speakers:

Chair: Terence Cosgrave – Editor, The Irish Medical Times

· Dr. Bill Tormey - Fine Gael Cllr and Consultant at Beaumont Hospital
· Michael Cullen - CEO and Co-Founder of Beacon Medical
· Professor John Crown - Consultant Oncologist and critic of HSE
· Jimmy Tolan - CEO of VHI

Speaking about the debate Trinity Young Fine Gael Chairperson, Michael Clancy, said: "The last ten years have seen a dramatic increase in funding for health services including the creation of the HSE. In holding this debate we aim to look at some serious questions, which must be answered.

"Have we received value for money? Is this new model for health service (the HSE), which is being guided and managed by Minister for Health Mary Harney, and Professor Brendan Drumm, delivering for the people of Ireland? Are the HSE able to manage their budget? Are we right to encourage and foster a two-tier health service as evidenced under the co-location plan?

"Tonight some of the brightest and most talented professionals in the business who hold contrasting and conflicting views will debate how best to pursue a fair, equitable and sustainable health service. At this critical juncture in the Irish economy, the need to provide a sustainable healthcare system that the State can afford is crucial."
