Waterford Young Fine Gael welcomes Noel Dempsey's U-Turn

After coming to his senses nearly two weeks after the people of Waterford were informed of the appalling decision to reduce the search and rescue services operated from Waterford Regional Airport, Waterford YFG welcomes this change of heart by Transport Minister Noel Dempsey.

This Government has had to row back and flip-flop on many decisions it has made since Ireland has slid into recession but this change of heart is good news for the people of Waterford and for those who work and enjoy the southeast's coastline. Young Fine Gael was shocked and sickened by the announcement as it suggested that the Minister for Transport saw fit to potentially put many people's lives at risk to save a paltry €1 million.

This vital policy reversal is not thanks to Noel Dempsey or the government but rather the people of Waterford and the southeast who lobbied politicians and voiced their outrage at the decision and they are to be commended for that. The people of Waterford recognise that the southeast is being neglected day in and day out and are not going to be pushed over by this government.
