Protecting Children, Protecting Families - Patrick Molloy

Message from YFG President, Patrick Molloy on the Children's Referendum Campaign

The forthcoming Children's Referendum has a special role for all youth organisations. This referendum directly effects members of our organisation and will have long term beneficial consequences for all future members. Young Fine Gael is committed to ensuring that this referendum is passed and that the mistakes of the past are dealt with and not repeated in the future.
As part of this, our campaign launch will be taking place next Sunday at 11:30am at the Trinity Climbing Wall.

Our campaign theme is, as per the header of this update, "Protecting Children, Protecting Families". This reflects that while children are well cared for in the vast majority of family circumstances, there is a social and moral imperative that we deal with the few cases where this may not be the case. By voting YES on November 10th, we will be placing an emphasis on child protection in our constitution.
Branches around the country will be holding a series of public meetings and information nights. I would ask that members attend these meetings to gain a greater understanding of the issues surrounding child protection and the need for this amendment.
This referendum is being brought before the people after 17 reports on child neglect and abuse. It is due time that a referendum is held to deal with issues of child protection and I would appreciate your help and assistance over the coming weeks in ensuring that this referendum is passed.
