Northern Regional Council AGM

The AGM of the newly launched Northern Regional Council took place on Saturday, 6th July in Letterkenny, County Donegal. David McLaughlin, Chairperson of the Donegal North-East YFG branch, welcomed everyone to Donegal and informed those present of plans his branch have for the coming months, especially in relation youth mental health and about an information meeting for young people about how to apply for third level education grants. YFG National Youth Officer, Sarah O'Connor, addressed the meeting informing the members about upcoming events in the YFG calendar, in particular the Garret FitzGerald Summer School and the YFG National Conference.

Minister of State for the Gaeltacht, Dinny Mc Ginley TD addressed the meeting about his work as a Minister of State representing the Gaeltacht and wished the regional council the best of luck. Joe McHugh TD addressed the meeting about the work he is doing in Dáil Éireann and he spoke about how it was encouraging to see young people so interested in politics and trying to make a difference. He highlighted work on educational issues, and cross-border relationships.

Letterkenny Town Councillor, Jimmy Kavanagh, spoke about the great work that the Donegal North-East YFG branch has being doing in recent months and that YFG would play a key role in the upcoming referendum on the abolition of the Seanad in the Autumn and the Local Elections in 2014.

Fionán Lynch (Donegal North-East YFG) was elected as the first ever Chairperson of the Northern Regional Council, Leah Kavanagh (Donegal North-East YFG) was elected Secretary, David McLaughlin (Donegal North-East YFG) was elected Treasurer, Aaron Sweeney (Donegal North-East YFG) was elected Policy Officer.
The North-West Regional Organiser D.J. Kelly congratulated those elected and wished them the best of luck in the coming 12 months.
