Neale Richmond

Name: Cllr. Neale Richmond

Age: 31

Candidate in: Glencullen – Sandyford Ward of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.

YFG/FG branches: Dublin Rathdown YFG, formerly UCD YFG

Why did you decide to run in the locals: I am running for re-election as I care passionately about my community and my area. I feel I have been an effective and direct voice when it comes to looking after those simple issues that Councils need to worry about and I want to continue this work.

Why did you join YFG/FG: I joined YFG in September 2002, I always had an interest in politics and more importantly an opinion on it, I had voted for Fine Gael in the disastrous General Election of that year and I was disappointed to see them do so badly. One of my friends effectively challenged me to join up and do something rather than simply talking about it, so I went up to the YFG stand in UCD that September and the rest is history.

Your greatest achievement: Being elected in 2009 was my biggest achievement within Fine Gael politics; we won an extra seat in my Ward and effectively doubled the party's vote after what was effectively an 18 month campaign. On the Council I have prioritised the provision of new and improved recreational facilities so I am delighted to see the ongoing development of Marlay Park. I also lead the relocation of an expanded secondary school to my area through the entire development plan and planning permission process.
