#GFSS Policy Motions 2013

1. YFG calls on the Government to start accession talks with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

2. YFG calls on the Government, in addition to legislating for the X-case, to legislate for the abortion rights for the woman in cases of ectopic and non-viable pregnancies where the child has no chance for survival following birth.
Submitted by UCD YFG, Trinity YFG and North Tipp YFG.
Trinity YFG will propose the motion and North Tipp YFG will second it.

3. YFG calls on the Government to reinstate Garda detectives with sub-machine guns, as ordinary handguns are insufficient to combat modern day crime.

4. YFG opposes proposals for History to be removed as a distinct subject on the Junior Certificate syllabus.
Submitted by Dublin SW YFG, Trinity YFG and Clare YFG.
Clare YFG will propose the motion and Dublin SW YFG will second it.

5. YFG calls for court imposed fines to be deducted at source and for a wider use of restoration justice and community work as means of keeping those guilty of small non-violent offences out of prison.

6. YFG calls on the Minister for Justice and Equality to carry out a review of sentencing procedures in the District and Criminal Courts with the aim to introduce stringent sentences, with limited room for appeal for serious crimes and furthermore, to remove the right of judges to remove the final years.

7. YFG calls on the Government to expand on the Jobseekers Benefit Payment to include former business owners who have ceased trading.
