Where & when is YFG Summer School taking place?

The first annual Garret FitzGerald YFG Summer School is taking place in Killarney, from 27-29th July.
The conference venue for YFG events throughout the weekend will be the Killarney Plaza Hotel: http://www.killarneyplaza.com/

What is Summer School? Is it like school?

YFG Summer School is a unique mixture of political and social events, with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The weekend will consist of policy debates, guest speakers, social events & outdoor activities.

We would encourage all members to travel to Killarney, particularly new members who have not attended YFG events in the past.

How do I register?

You can now register at http://www.yfg.ie/summer-school, at cost of €26 per person.

Please note registration closes on Friday, July 13th at 5.00 p.m. Places cannot be guaranteed after this point. It is not possible to pay on the day; all bookings must be made in advance to secure places.

I got an error when I booked online - why can't I pay with Laser?

Unfortunately Paypal currently doesn't support payment by Laser. If you do not have access to a credit card or a visa debit card, please send a postal order for €25 to:

How do I submit a motion for debate?

We are calling on branches to submit motions for discussion during a session on Saturday morning, 28th July in Killarney.
Motions should be submitted to the YFG Policy Director, Frankie Mulqueen, by Friday, July 13th at 5.00 p.m. at:

What is included in the registration fee?

The registration fee includes two nights accommodation, lunch on Saturday, followed by an afternoon outdoor activity and a BBQ on Saturday night.

Will I have to pay for food over the weekend? Is breakfast included?

Saturday lunch and an evening BBQ are covered in the registration fee. In addition to this, breakfast is included each morning in the hostel from 8.00 – 10.00 a.m. Tea, good coffee, juice, toast, butter and jam, and cereal and milk are available.

Any food or drink outside of these arrangements will need to be covered by yoursef over the weekend.

Are vegetarian options available?
Yes vegetarian menu options will be available at all YFG events over the weekend.

What time does YFG Summer School start and finish?

YFG Summer School begins on Friday evening at 7.00 p.m. with a social in a Killarney bar (venue TBC).

YFG Summer School will end at 1.00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

I don't need any accommodation; do I still have to pay the full registration fee?

If you do not require accommodation for either night, please email us at yfg@yfg.ie to avail of a day delegate fee of €15 which will cover lunch, the afternoon activity and the evening BBQ.

You can pay for the day delegate rate by cheque or postal order in advance, or in cash on the day. The closing date for day delegate reservations is Friday, July 13th at 5.00 p.m.

I only need accommodation for one night, how much do I have to pay?

Unfortunately due to the block booking arrangement made with the hostel for the weekend, we must still charge €26, even if you require just one night's accommodation. This also includes lunch, the afternoon activity and the evening BBQ.

I don't want to stay in a hostel, is their alternative accommodation available?

Killarney is a busy tourist town which has a range of other accommodation options, mostly available at a higher price. A special delegate rate has been arranged with the Killarney Plaza Hotel for YFG members. Please email yfg@yfg.ie for details of the rate, and for the rate code for use when booking with the hotel. Attendees for the day delegate rate only still have to register with yfg@yfg.ie before Friday, July 13th at 5.00 p.m.

Is parking available?

Yes, free parking is available from the hostel.

Is Internet available?
Yes, free wi-fi is available in both the hostel and hotel.

When will we find out the rooming list for the hostel?

The rooming list will be made available once you check in on the Friday of the YFG Summer School. It is not possible to facilitate specific requests for the arrangement of people in specific rooms.

What time can I check in/check out of the hostel?

Check in is available from 4.00 p.m., Checkout time is 11.00 a.m.

What is the best way to travel to Killarney?

If you are planning to travel by train, we recommend booking ASAP in order to receive the lowest possible fare.

What events are taking place over the weekend?

What is the activity on Saturday afternoon?

For the afternoon activity, everyone will be picked by jaunting car from the Killarney Plaza Hotel and will be taken to Ross Castle in Killarney National Park. From here, members have a choice of either going kayaking or travelling on a guided cruise of the Killarney lakes. Members may also explore Killarney National Park, if they don't wish to take part in either activity.

Please note that there is only 18 places available for kayaking and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Please email us at yfg@yfg.ie if you have already registered, and are interested in either going kayaking or going on the guided cruise.

What do I need to bring for Kayaking?

Swimming Togs, towel, Booties/Old Shoes, Water & Sun Cream will be needed by each person who is kayaking.
