Garret FitzGerald Summer School - Travel Options

Suggested routes for delegates travelling to Kilkenny for the Annual Young Fine Gael Garret Fitzgerald Summer School.

For those travelling by CAR:

From the North East (Cavan~Monaghan~Meath~Louth) and Dublin: Travel towards Dublin, take M50 Junction 9 N7/M7 Westbound for Naas. Just after the Naas bypass take Junction 11 onto the M9 Southbound for Waterford. Take Exit 8 for Kilkenny North.

From the South West/South/South East (Kerry~Cork~South Tipp~Waterford): Two routes are possible for those travelling from this area, depending on your original starting point. For those from East Cork/Waterford, you may wish to take the M9 Northbound from Waterford City and take Exit 9 for Kilkenny South. For those travelling from a more westward approach, you may wish to travel via Clonmel, and take the N76 Northbound to Kilkenny City.

From the West (North Kerry~Limerick~Clare): You may wish to take the above route via Clonmel or along the M7 Eastbound towards Roscrea, exiting at Durrow, Exit 21, taking the N77 southbound to Kilkenny City.

From the North West and the Mid Lands (Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Longford, Westmeath, Donegal, Laois, Offaly): For those travelling from the West, you may wish to travel via Athlone, and from there travel via Tullamore and take the N80 Southbound via Port Laoise, then take the N77 Southbound to Kilkenny City. Alternatively you may wish to take the N62 from Athlone to Roscrea, and from there take the Durrow route along the N77 Southbound to Kilkenny City. Those from the midlands may wish to take a similar route as mentioned.

For those travelling by RAIL:

Please remember that Irishrail have agreed to allow delegates travelling to Summer School a 15% discount. Purchases must be made between 24th June until 28th June. Kilkenny is located on the Dublin Heuston to Waterford rail line, which continues from Waterford towards Mallow~Cork~Tralee and Limerick via Limerick Junction. Rail travel is also possible from the Dublin to Galway~Westport~Ballina lines via Athenry~Limerick (From Galway) and via Kildare (from the Westport and Ballina lines). Those travelling on the Sligo~Dublin (Connolly) and Belfast~Dundalk~Dublin (Connolly) Lines will have to change stations in Dublin City via the Luas Red Line (Connolly Station to Heuston Station).
