Carbery YFG Launches in Celtic Ross

The first meeting of the newly reformed Carbery branch of Young Fine Gael was held in the Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery, on the 1st of May. The guest speakers included Simon Coveney TD, Party Spokesperson for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Stephen Behan, Vice President of Young Fine Gael, Jonathon Hoare member of the Fine Gael National Executive , also in attendance were Jim O'Keeffe TD, Sean Kelly candidate for the European Parliament Elections, Cllr Jim Daly, Cllr John Collins and Cllr Veronica Neville.

Addressing the meeting Stephen Behan stressed that branch members are the most important part of the structure of YFG, while Johnathon Hoare pointed out the opportunities and friendships which would be forged upon joining a branch.

Deputy Coveney spoke of the need for YFG branches in these times of economic hardship as a voice for young people, who are most hurt by the current financial hardship. Before the election of officers was undertaken Mr. Noel O'Donovan, a member of the organising committee for the event, spoke about two plaques situated in the foyer of the hotel, remarking how apt it was that "John Bruton laid the foundation stones for the hotel, while Bertie Ahern took the credit for the opening".

The meeting then went onto the election of officers which was overseen by Jim O'Keeffe TD, Noel O'Donovan was elected Chairman, Vice-Chair is Aaron Vickery, Secretary, Shane McCarthy, PRO Bríd Murphy, Joint Treasurers Jennifer Bennett and Shane Buttimer, Organiser Andrew Kirwan, and Membership Officer Noirín O'Brien. With 35 members signed up on the night, a great night was had by all.
