Another blow for the Mid-West Region- Clare Young Fine Gael

Clare Young Fine Gael have expressed severe dissapointment with the continued loss of jobs in the banner county. The global giant, ELEMENT SIX (manufacturers of supermaterials and industrial diamonds) announced last Wednesday it is shedding 370 jobs with the closure of it's manufacturing and distribution activities at the plant in the Shannon Industrial Estate. Clare YFG would like to offer their sympathies to the families affected. Speaking after the announcement, Clare YFG Chairman Cillian Griffey said: "I believe the fear is now there after this announcement that other multinationals could follow suit by announcing job cuts or plans to relocate elsewhere."

We also stand with staff who vented their anger over the redundancy package on offer and are vowing to fight it to get a better deal. "On the 24th of June last we learned of the 190 jobs lost from the Tom Hogan car dealership who faced trading difficulties".

Tom Hogan Motors, which had outlets in Galway, Clare and Tipperary, was one of the biggest Toyota dealerships in the country. Finally we heard last Thursday that the Lynch hotels group, one of Ireland's biggest hotel groups has announced that it has voluntarily entered examinership proceedings in a bid to restructure its finances. "All these are unfortunate reoccurances which has resulted in the dole queues exceeding 10,000 in Clare. The biggest increase was in the Ennis area where the number of people unemployed now stands at 6 thousand."
