Alfie Byrne Branch YFG welcome Clontarf 'head-shop' closure

Young Fine Gael members in Clontarf have welcomed the closure of 'D3 Head-shop', on Clontarf Road, after less than 2 days of trading.

'D3 Head Shop' opened its doors in Clontarf, Dublin, on St. Patrick's Day amid a torrent of objections from worried locals. Just 24 hours earlier the site had been operating as a florist under the same management.

Last Saturday, members of YFG and local residents held a protest outside the shop, voicing their concerns. YFG's Colm Lauder said "that is was wholly inappropriate for head shops to operate in a residential area, and within the vicinity of several schools."

Speaking after the granting of an injunction to prevent the store opening, Mr. Lauder said that "he was delighted the concerns of the residents had been listened to. We are delighted with the prompt closure of this cancer in our neighbourhood."

Mr. Lauder noted that he will be proposing a resolution to ban mephedrone and enforce strict regulations on the operation of "head-shops" at the upcoming EU YEPP meeting in Paris next month.
